SARAJEVO, March 21 (Hina) - Officials of Bildt's Office and UN
mission in Bosnia-Herzegovina, on Friday expressed dissatisfaction
with rulings passed by the western Mostar court against three
policemen responsible for incidents that happened in Mostar on
February 10 when one Moslem was killed and about twenty of them
injured.
A spokesman for the UN, Alexander Ivanko, said in Sarajevo
that the proceedings carried out in court in the western half of
Mostar were among the shortest ever recorded, and that there were
serious omissions in it. Neither witnesses nor victims of the
violence had been heard at all, and the court failed to mention
that suspects were responsible for use of fire-arms, murder of one
person and the wounding of several other people, the UN spokesman
said.
Ivanko described as particularly impermissible that political
evaluations were given in the rulings such as that convicted
policemen had fought for their country.
Such comments warned that the western Mostar court did not
understand what professional duties of policemen were and that
judges were burdened by war times rhetoric.
Such statements that followed reports of western Mostar
police, were disappointing and very problematic, but not
surprising, when we took in consideration all latest developments
in western Mostar, Ivanko added.
A spokesman for international community's High Representative
Bildt's office, described yesterday's court trial in Mostar as the
ridiculing of justice and the mere farce. It is the view of Carl
Bildt himself, the spokesman, Colum Murphy said on Friday.
According to reports of the international police, another
three illegal check-points, set up by western Mostar police, had
been discovered last night by international police patrols. One of
the check-points was removed immediately after a warning directed
to Croat policemen, whereas other two had to be removed with the
help of SFOR (Stabilisation Force), but without use of force,
Ivanko said.
