The participants stressed that the procedure and ways of
negotiating about admitting countries candidates into the WTO
should be simplified in the future.
At the moment, negotiations about the accession in WTO are
being held with 27 countries, Croatia being one of them.
A Croatian delegation successfully completed its second round
of negotiations last week, but the date of its accession has not
yet been set.
As regards the difficulties concerning the strategy of trade
opening, the participants unanimously agreed that the opening in a
short period of time could be painful, but that it brought great
relief and benefits in the long run.
As regards Croatia which s facing lengthy negotiations for
being admitted into the European Community and Cefta, such a view
is of great importance because a possible speedier accession into
WTO with its results and affects on the Croatian market could
compensate for the difficulties from the fact that Croatia is still
not a member of the European Community nor Cefta.
