They visited their local cemetery where they talked to
local residents who had remained in the village.
Commander of UNTAES troops, Lieutenant General Willy
Hanset, also visited the cemetery and expressed satisfaction
about the fact that the first visit to Aljmas had passed
without incident.
General Hanset made it possible for reporters of the
Croatian Television and Hina to visit the location where once
stood the local Roman Catholic church which was completely
destroyed during the war.
The displaced persons could not visit the site, but they
did take a tour of their village in a UNTAES vehicle.
President of the local Aljmas committee Zdenko
Petrijevcanin said that 841 residents used to live in the
village before the war, but since the exodus in August 1991,
800 people had been displaced.
Ninety-three persons from Aljmas died in exile.
