ZAGREB, Jan 13 (Hina) - The newly-established Working Group for
Central and Eastern Europe of the European Union Christian
Democtats (EUCD) held a meeting in Brussels on January 9-10, the
ruling Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) party said in a statement on
Monday.
The meeting, chaired by Wiam van Velzen, was attended by about
50 participants. Croatia was represented by Tomislav Krusic, HDZ
secretary for international relations, Lujo Tomcic, a member of the
HDZ and former foreign minister of Austria, and Anto Kovacevic,
vice president of the Croatian Christian Democratic Union (HKDU).
The two-day meeting heard reports on party trends and the
overall situation in new democracies.
Participants expressed particular concern about the situation
in the Yugoslav federation of Serbia and Montenegro.
Participants welcomed Croatia's decision on holding local
elections in March this year.
