Ilok, was murdered early in the evening of 14 January, 1997, a

"TPF arrived at the crime scene in response to a
telephone call by the husband of the deceased.
In the course of investigation on the spot, the
perpetrator was positively identified and a search began for
the suspected criminal. He was armed with several weapons. He
had damaged his own apartment and later shot a dog before
killing the woman.
Subsequently the perpetrator was spotted in the vicinity
of the crime scene when he shot eight machine gun rounds at
the UNTAES car before disappearing into the side streets.
As a result of the shooting the husband of the deceased,
who was in the car with the UN personnel, was wounded. His
life is not endangered. No one else was injured.
TPF had sealed off the area and the search for the
apparently deranged suspect continues.
Further details of the investigation will be released as
