BELGRADE, Jan 18 (Hina) - A leader of the Serbian opposition
coalition "Zajedno (Together)" in Serbia, Vuk Draskovic, told a UN
human rights envoy, Elizabeth Rehn, on Saturday that there was
"growing pessimism" in the Serbian opposition due to insufficient
pressure of the international community on Serbia's President
Slobodan Milosevic.
"Milosevic is in some way encouraged by the behaviour of the
international community, the Security Council and the European
Union," said Draskovic. He added that the international community
failed to respect its own decisions, since Milosevic did not meet
his commitments, under the Dayton agreement, to respect the
principles of democracy and establish security and stability in the
region.
Elizabeth Rehn on Saturday tried to urge Milosevic to
acknowledge the election victory by the opposition. She also held
talks with opposition leaders in Belgrade.
