ZAGREB, Oct 8 (Hina) - The Croatian National Sabor's (Parliament)
House of Representatives on Thursday discussed bills on the
protection from ionising radiation and toxic substances.
These areas are currently regulated with laws dating back to some 15
years.
The proposed bills for the first time prohibits the import,
transport and storage of radioactive waste which did not originate
in Croatia, as well as the import of toxic substances for the
purpose of their storage.
In this way Croatia prevents the possibility of becoming a "waste
dump" of developed countries.
MPs also discussed bills on ratifying the Joint Convention on Spent
Fuel Management and the Safety of Radioactive Waste Management, as
well as a consular convention between Croatia and Albania.
