BUDAPEST, Sept 28 (Hina) - Croatian National Parliament
representatives headed by Secretary-General Berislav Zivkovic on
Monday held talks with representatives of the Hungarian
Parliament.
Cooperation between the two countries' parliaments was established
during a meeting between the parliament presidents in 1997, and was
consummated by the visit of a Hungarian Parliament delegation to
Zagreb at the beginning of this year.
Zivkovic described the talks in Budapest as very useful, because of
the possibility of MPs getting acquainted with the work and
functioning of the Hungarian Parliament, and the exchange of
experiences.
Participants at the talks agreed that cooperation should in the
future be extended by an exchange of materials, talks on the
promotion of the technical functioning of the two parliaments, and
similar issues.
The Croatian MPs were also received by the deputy speaker of the
Hungarian Parliament, Katalin Sili.
The talks focused on local elections that took place in Hungary in
October.
Sili and the Croatian MPs also tackled electoral systems of both
countries and the position of minorities.
Katalin Sili was elected into the Hungarian Parliament in the part
of Baranja with a Hungarian majority, a region in the east of
Croatia, where she cooperated with representatives of the Croat
minorities.
