MOSTAR, Sept 12 (Hina) - The international high representative for
Bosnia Carlos Westendorp on Saturday visited two polling stations
in the southern town of Mostar.
A two-day general election is being held in the country this
weekend.
This year's election in Bosnia is a positive step towards the
normalisation of the situation, to the benefit of all in Bosnia, the
high representative said, adding the election would also
contribute to democratisation.
This year the election is better scheduled than in the past and
there has been less incidents, Westendorp said.
Commenting on incomplete voters' lists resulting from problems
with computers, which was the reason why several polling stations
in Mostar were not opened, Westendorp said these mistakes would
soon be corrected.
He discussed the matter with Robert Barrie, the head of the
Organisation for Security ad Cooperation in Europe mission in
Bosnia, which is in charge of the holding of the election.
Barrie had promised the problems would be resolved soon and that all
who registered as voters would be able to cast their ballots.
After visiting a polling station in the western, Croat-controlled
part of the town and one in the central area, Westendorp met with
Martin Garrod, the head of his office in Mostar.
