ZAGREB, Aug 27 (Hina) - Croatian President Franjo Tudjman on
Thursday awarded a medal of the Croatian Shamrock order to Canadian
Parliament member Simon de Jong.
The medal was presented to de Jong on behalf of Tudjman by the
director of the Croatian Homeland Foundation, Ante Beljo.
Simon de Jong advocated Croatian issues in Canada during the
Croatian state's struggle for independence, as well as the
international recognition of Croatia.
He initiated the discussion on Croatia at the Canadian Parliament,
which resulted in Canada's recognition of the Republic of Croatia.
Besides, Beljo stressed, de Jong followed the first multi-party
elections in Croatia and Bosnia-Herzegovina, and was the organiser
of the first visit of a Croatian delegation to Canada in 1990.
Wishing as much progress as possible to Croatia, de Jong said he
would continue to work on the further promotion of Croatia in
Canada.
