ZAGREB, 14 Aug (Hina) - The fire on the island Korcula is still
active in the area of Grahova bay between the settlements of Brna
and Zavlatica as well as on Gradina hill, the Government Crisis
Committee said in a report at 9.30am Friday.
The fire has spread to the southern slopes of Zahumlje hill and to
the southern slopes of Kupa, Borak and Osojak hills.
The blaze is spreading towards Velika Glava hill and Gumanc valley.
North of the Cara settlement the fire has spread to Kocac hill.
Inhabited settlements are not in danger, the report said.
Two Canadair planes from Croatia and an Austrian helicopter are
fighting the fire. Between two and three Italian G-222 planes, five
Austrian helicopters, two German SFOR helicopters and 19 special
fire force members from France are to arrive in Korcula during the
day.
The fire in the area of Mt Svilaja (Split hinterland) is under
control.
The fire in Celina, Omis municipality (east of Split), which broke
out yesterday afternoon, is still active in the northern part of
Mosor hill. The fire has been contained at the foot of the hill.
A helicopter was sent in the early morning hours to help fire
brigades in Omis.
The fire on Lastovo island has been contained and there are no
active fire scenes.
The fires on St Elias hill overlooking Orebic (Peljesac peninsula)
and in the area of Snjeznica have been put under control, the report
said.
