PULA, August 1 (Hina) - The winners for this year's awards at the
Croatian Film Festival Pula '98 have been announced, with Krsto
Papic winning the major Grand Golden Arena prize for directing the
movie "Kad mrtvi zapjevaju" ("When the Dead Sing"), produced by
Jadran Film and Croatian Radio Television (HRT).
Others to receive Grand Golden Arena prizes included Sandra
Loncaric for best female role, as Stela in the Patria Film and HRT
production "Zavaravanje" ("Deception"); Filip Sovagovic for best
male role, as Jakov Jerat in "Transatlantic", a film produced by
Jadran Film and HRT; and Boris Dvornik for his overall contribution
to Croatian film.
The Pula '98 judging panel released the names of all the winners at a
press conference held in the northern Adriatic city on Saturday,
with the prizes to be awarded that night in Pula's Arena
amphitheatre following the showing of the last of six films
featured at the festival, Vladimir Tadej's "Kanjon opasnih igara"
("The Canyon of Dangerous Games")
The award for best debut realisation, to be called the Breza from
this year and sponsored by national daily "Vjesnik", was given to
Mirjana Rogina for her role as Melita in the film "Tri muskarca
Melite Zganjer" ("Melita Zganjer's Three Men").
Another 10 prizes, known as Golden Arenas, were awarded. Five of
these were won by "Tri muskarca Melite Zganjer", three by
"Transatlantic", and two by "Kad mrtvi zapjevaju".
