PRISTINA, July 9 (Hina) - The president of the Parliamentary Party
of Kosovo Adem Demaqi said on Thursday he recently had a meeting
with representatives of the Kosovo Liberation Army (OVK) who said
they were willing to cooperate but were also determined to fight for
their freedom.
The OVK will not cease with battles unless the Serbian regime offer
guarantees that it is seriously intentioned to negotiate, Demaqi
told foreign reporters visiting the south Yugoslav province as
reported by Koha Ditore, a Pristina daily in Albanian, on
Thursday.
The said guarantees mean that Albanians in Kosovo be given back the
rights they enjoyed in March 1989, before the province's autonomy
was abolished, said Demaqi.
This is the precondition for the beginning and end of the
negotiations, he said.
Demaqi said he told OVK representatives that he recognised them and
expected them to respond to his idea that the Kosovo Parliamentary
Party become their political wing.
