SARAJEVO, June 12 (Hina) - The international High Representative in
Bosnia-Herzegovina, Carlos Westendorp, has decided to appointed
members of an Independent Media Commission in Bosnia, the Office of
the High Representative said in a statement sent to Hina Friday.
Judge Krister Thelin, a former Swedish assistant justice minister,
was appointed the Commission's chief director.
Thelin will take up his office on July 1.
The appointment of other members of the Commission is underway, the
statement said.
The purpose of the Commission is to promote media pluralism and
issue permits for the broadcasting of radio and television
programmes throughout the country.
The Commission will also adopt special media rules which will be in
effect by the beginning of the election campaign.
Westendorp has also decided on a moratorium for the issuing of new
frequencies for radio and television broadcasting until the
Commission adopts regulations for this sector.
