ZAGREB/WASHINGTON, June 5 (Hina) - Following a proposal by the
creator of the Dayton peace agreement, Richard Holbrooke, a Bosnian
Franciscan, Friar Ivo Markovic, was given an international peace
worker award.
The award is being presented for the first time this year by the US
centre for inter-religious understanding "Tanenbaum", Voice of
America reported on Friday.
During the award-presentation ceremony in New York, Friar Markovic
handed a letter of thanks by Friar Petar Andjelovic, head of the
Bosnian Franciscan order.
Throughout the war and especially after his return to Sarajevo at
the beginning of 1996, Friar Markovic has been working on lessening
animosities and reconciling antagonised nations as well as on the
return of displaced people and refugees, Voice of America
reported.
