The session held under the auspices of Croatian President Franjo
Tudjman was opened by the Prince of Monaco, S. A. S. Reiner III, as
chairman of the CIESM.

newest achievements and research among scientists from various
fields of expertise in maritime science.
Five scientists held speeches about the geo-dynamics of the eastern
Mediterranean and new horizons opening for maritime science thanks
to space research.
Croatia, as a Mediterranean country, is interested in cooperation
with all Mediterranean countries, as well as countries involved in
maritime research, Croatian Science and Technology Minister, Ivica
Kostovic, said.
The deep-sea flora of Croatia's sea bed is very rich and abounds in
varieties. Its 1,185 islands, reefs and cliffs, as well as 1,777
kilometres of land are evidence of the indentedness and beauty of
our islands and coast. This is why Croatia advocates a sustainable
development and harmony between ecology and economy is order to
maintain this wealth for the generations to come, Kostovic said.
