ZAGREB, May 20 (Hina) - An agreement on friendship and cooperation
between Zagreb and Buenos Aires was signed in Zagreb Wednesday.
The signatories were representatives of the two capitals'
authorities, Luis Gregoric and Miljenko Cvjetko respectively.
The agreement marks the beginning of a very wide cooperation,
Gregoric said during talks with representatives of Zagreb's city
authorities headed by Mayor Marina Matulovic Dropulic.
The first stage will be cooperation in culture, Dropulic said.
Cooperation in education, social and city policy and all public
activities of common interest will also be stimulated.
Gregoric is of Croatian origin. He was born 1938 in Zagreb, where he
spent the first nine years of his life.
He said the 200,000-strong Croatian community in Argentina is the
most numerous in the capital, with about 80,000 members.
On August 21, 1997 Buenos Aires declared fraternisation with
Zagreb. On December 1997 the Zagreb city assembly reached a
conclusion on the establishment of friendship cooperation.
