THE HAGUE, May 5 (Hina) - The International Criminal Tribunal for
the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY) opened a second trial chamber on
Tuesday.
The chamber was built with the help of US$500,000 donated to ICTY by
the United Kingdom.
Trial Chamber II is smaller than the first one built in October
1994. It does not have a public gallery but a cabin inside the
chamber with four seats for visitors.
The ICTY president Gabrielle Kirk McDonalds announced that a third
chamber will be opened at the end of June.
In the ICTY detention centre there are currently 26 defendants
while one is temporarily free. Currently there are four trials in
progress and one appeal.
