VUKOVAR, May 3 (Hina) - On occasion of the Day of the eastern
Croatian city of Vukovar, Mayor Vladimir Stengl on Sunday forwarded
a message of best wishes to all residents and friends of Vukovar.
"The Day of the City of Vukovar is the day when Vukovar was declared
a free royal city in the year 1231.
We have reasons to celebrate because this Croatian hero city has
been returned to its homeland, after six years of occupation,"
Stengl said.
"However, scars and consequences of the Serb aggression on Vukovar
and its residents are still deep," Stengl said in his message.
"Dear residents and friends of Vukovar, let us pray together and let
us not let down all countrymen who had given up their lives for us to
live. Home, Vukovar and their homeland Croatia were sacred to them.
Let the day of Vukovar also be an occasion to thank the Almighty for
giving us the strength to bear all troubles, for giving us the
strength to forgive and again live along with those who have not
committed crimes.
We live for Vukovar and let peace reign over this city and among its
residents forever," Stengl said.
