JASENOVAC, Apr 19 (Hina) - A commemoration was held in Jasenovac
Sunday to celebrate the 53rd anniversary of the last prisoners'
breakthrough from the local World War Two concentration camp about
80 kilometres south-east of Zagreb.
The commemoration was organised by the Alliance of Anti-Fascist
Fighters of Croatia, and was attended by delegations of the
Croatian President, the Croatian National Parliament and
Government and the local Sisacko-Moslavacka County, as well as by
prisoners who survived, a delegation of fighters from Slovenia and
Bosnia-Herzegovina, religious communities, political parties and
the Association of Croatian Homeland War Veterans.
After a minute of silence in honour of the death camp's victims,
Croatian President envoys Janko Bobetko and Slobodan Lang lay
wreaths from President Franjo Tudjman and the Parliament in the
crypt of monuments. Culture Minister Bozo Biskupic and Education
and Sports Minister Bozidar Pugelnik lay wreaths on behalf of the
Government.
Wreaths were also laid by delegations of the Sisacko-Moslavacka
County, the Jewish Municipality of Zagreb and the coordination of
Jewish municipalities of Croatia, the Serb Council, the
Association of Romanies of Croatia, anti-fascist fighters of
Slovenia and Bosnia and the Association of Croatian War Veterans.
