ZAGREB, April 14 (Hina) - The Croatian State Attorney's office is
taking immediate and comprehensive action so that all formal and
legal preconditions for the issuing of a request for the
extradition of former commander of the Jasenovac concentration
camp Dinko Sakic from Argentina to Croatia, could be met, Croatia's
State Attorney Marijan Hranjski told Hina on Tuesday.
In order to issue a request for extradition, certain formal and
legal preconditions have to be met, said Hranjski.
According to the Croatian legislation, those included the issuing
of an indictment, a decision on detention or some other legal act,
Hranjski said.
The State Attorney's office is taking all necessary measures to
fulfil those conditions and is gathering data from the Croatian
State Archives.
The Interior Ministry is participating in the procedure as well.
The former Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (SFRY) did not
seek the extradition of Sakic although he was declared war criminal
by the World Commission in 1945, Hranjski said.
The investigation against Sakic will be carried out as soon as
possible and with no reserve whatsoever, he added.
The Croatian Justice Ministry confirmed that it would send a
request for Sakic's extradition to the Argentinean authorities
immediately after it issues an indictment against him.
