ZAGREB, March 11 (Hina) - Croatian Economy Minister Nenad Porges
and the head of the Mission of the Organisation for Security and
Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), Tim Guldimann, met for talks in
Zagreb on Wednesday.
The two officials discussed economic problems in the Croatian
Danube region which are hampering the normal living of its
residents.
Porges informed Guldimann about the problems of large economic
systems which have a large number of workers who do not have any work
to do, as well as about their lost markets and the unsolved problem
of return of displaced people, the Economy Ministry said in a
statement.
Speaking about the leather and footwear company "Borovo", Porges
said the company could employ some 700 workers on market-
sustainable programmes, which opened up the question of what to do
with the remaining 1,500 workers and 3,000 employees-returnees.
In reply to an objection concerning the possibility of
discrimination in employing workers, Porges said that Serbs
comprised the vast majority of employees in the region.
