ILOK, Feb 16 (Hina) - The branch Committee for Trust Establishment
in the eastern Croatian town of Ilok, which was under temporary U.N.
administration until 15 January, discussed the return and
registration of displaced people on Monday.
The Committee described the security situation in Ilok as
relatively satisfactory.
According to Stipan Kraljevic, Committee president and Ilok mayor,
the emigration from Ilok has completely ceased and the two-way
return is proceeding well.
Some 600 families have left the area and more than 400 families have
sold their property and are waiting to be paid.
As regards returnees, some 300 families have returned to Ilok, and
about 50 of them have still not regulated their returnee status
although they do live in Ilok.
The Agency for Facilitating Real-Estate Transactions has been
approached by 482 displaced families who currently live in Ilok but
want to sell their property. The Agency has resolved 150 such
requests.
Only 18 families have accepted offers, while others said the offers
were too low, representatives of the Ilok Committee for Trust
Establishment said.
The Croatian government Office for Displaced Persons and Refugees
is currently conducting the registration of refugees in Ilok.
