Jertovec is part of HEP's strategy which envisages the building of
three power generating objects, besides Plomin II and TE-TO Zagreb,
which should guarantee sufficient amounts of electricity for
Croatia's medium-term development needs, said Croatian Premier
Zlatko Matesa.
The premier said the project was important for Croatia also as part
of economic cooperation with the United States, and was one of the
three most important joint U.S.-Croatia projects. Matesa reminded
the U.S. was the premier investor into Croatia, and added the latest
project envisaged the participation of a significant number of
domestic manufacturers and construction companies.
"Enron International" vice president Joseph W. Sutton reminded of
the support Croatian President Franjo Tudjman had given to the
project since its inception.
The Jertovec thermoelectric power plant should be inaugurated by
2002. According to contract, HEP should supply gas and receive
electricity produced by "Enron International". For the first 20
years, the plant will be owned by the U.S. company; ownership will
be then transferred to HEP.
