ZAGREB ZAGREB, Dec 9 (Hina) - The first congress of Croatian historians started at Zagreb's 'Sheraton' hotel on Thursday. The event, to last until December 11, was opened by Croatian Parliament President Vlatko Pavletic, who is
standing in for the President of the Republic, under whose auspices the event is being held. A total of 187 lecturers will address topics which are divided into 16 sections. Wishing participants in the congress success in their work, Pavletic commended the selection of two topics which he said were necessary for Croatia - "Croatian National and State Identity and Continuity" and "Modern Croatian Historiography". He said the two topics were especially important today, when the idea of globalisation was spreading throughout the world and when special care had to be taken about the preservation of national identity.
