GENEVA, Nov 3 (Hina) - Slobodan Lang, the head of Croatia's
delegation at an international conference of the Red Cross and the
Red Crescent, on Wednesday informed the gathering in Geneva of the
implementation and promotion of the international humanitarian law
in Croatia.
Lang, President Franjo Tudjman's advisor on humanitarian issues,
told the Geneva conference that Croatia had never neglected its
obligations and his country had always abode by promoting and
implementing the international humanitarian law, regardless of
problems and aggravating circumstances, which were primarily
results of the aggression launched against Croatia.
Lang added the Government in Zagreb is setting up a National
Committee for the implementation of the international humanitarian
law, the task of which will be to supervise, implement and promote
the humanitarian law in line with the Geneva Conventions and
additional protocols, read a statement issued by Croatia's
permanent mission to the UN in Geneva.
The Croatian Government's internal policy and human rights
committee is taking active part in the work of the National
Committee for education in human rights. The goal of this programme
is to acquaint younger generations with successes in the field of
human rights and in the implementation of the humanitarian law as
well as to encourage them to accept values of democracy and human
rights, Lang said in Geneva.
He used this occasion to notify the Geneva conference of proposals
from a project entitled "Challenges of the Good", which the Zagreb
Government had presented in 1998 for the first time.
He spoke of humanitarian aspects of the prevention of genocide and
proposed that for this purpose a special committee be established
which should be named after Margarite Frick-Cramer, one of few
people who in 1942 spoke in public of the horrors of the Holocaust.
