Justice (ICJ), the Court said in a statement on Thursday.#L#
The ICJ simultaneously set September 14, 2000 for Yugoslavia as the
deadline for submitting a counter-deposition in the same case.
The Court set the mentioned deadlines taking into consideration an
agreement the two sides reached at a September 13, 1999 meeting with
ICJ president Schwebel.
Croatia on July 2, 1999 filed a lawsuit against Yugoslavia for
genocide committed during the 1991-1995 Serb aggression on
Croatia. According to the lawsuit, the aggression left 20,000 dead,
55,000 wounded, and 3,000 missing persons, and caused enormous
material damage.
Croatia appealed to the ICJ to assess and rule that Yugoslavia
violated its legal obligations to the Genocide Convention, for
which "it is obligated to pay Croatia (...) a sum to be set by the
Court."
