ZAGREB, Sept 5 (Hina) - The Croatian Slavist Committee will organise the second Croatian Slavist congress in the eastern Croatian town of Osijek between September 14 and 18, with the participation of 300 Slavists and Croatists from
Croatia and abroad. Participants will submit papers on four centuries of Croatian philology, the Croatian Glagolithic and paleoslavist issue, the Croatian language in the 20th century, Croatian renaissance and baroque, Croatian culture and civilisation, Croatian literature in the European context, and Croatian post-modernism The president of the Croatian Slavist Committee, Dubravka Sesar, said the organisers were surprised with the high number of participants. The most numerous come from countries in which German is spoken and from Hungary. Slavists are coming from all Slavist countries, except from Yugoslavia and Belarus. During the congress, Croatists will be presented with three
prestigious awards: the Antun Barac Medal for merits in the
research of Croatian literature, the Stjepan Ivsic Medal for merits
in the research of Croatian language, and the Vatroslav Jagic Medal
to the best international Slavist and Croatist.
The first Croatian Slavist congress was held in the northern
Adriatic port of Pula in 1995.
