The association's official Damir Buljevic told a news conference in Osijek today that the commemorations would begin with a gathering in the "Hrvatski Dom" in Vukovar and later a monument in the Nemetin suburb outside Osijek would be consecrated, which was erected three years ago in memory of the 14 August 1992 exchange of POWs in that eastern Croatian municipality.
On 14 August 1992, an all-for-all exchange of 714 prisoners of Serb concentration camps took place in Nemetin. Most of the prisoners were Croatian soldiers and there were also police officers and civilians.
Under a Croatian parliament decision, August 14 is marked as the day of the prisoners of enemy concentration camps during the Homeland War.
Buljevic said today that the HDLSKL had some 5,000 members and that they had started launching law actions against people who tortured them in concentration camps.
