ZAGREB, June 20 (Hina) - An international symposium on the recent
progress in the three-dimensional ultrasound began in Zagreb on
Sunday.
The symposium has been organised by the Zagreb "Sveti Duh"
hospital's gynaecology and obstetrics ward, under the auspices of
the President of the Croatian National Parliament, Vlatko
Pavletic, who said at the opening ceremony that medicine in Croatia
was now at a level which enables it to follow the world's
achievements.
Doctor Asim Kurjak, the head of the organising committee and of the
gynaecology and obstetrics ward of the Sveti Duh hospital, spoke of
the importance of achievements in diagnoses made by ultrasound and
their practical usage.
During the symposium which lasts by June 25, doctors of this Zagreb
hospital will present latest results in the pre-operational
separation of malign from benign tumours and the application of a
new technique in the early pregnancy as well as in the treatment of
sterility.
About 200 scientists from 25 countries are to discuss results of the
usage of three-dimensional ultrasound, which Zagreb doctors
introduced as a new technique two years ago. This technique gives a
three-dimensional image of the foetus as well as of tumours
facilitating further medical procedures.
