VUKOVAR, June 17 (Hina) - A book entitled "Teas to the Truth" was
presented Thursday in the eastern Croatian war torn town of
Vukovar.
On its 488 pages, the book documents the atrocities which were
committed by the Serb aggressor in individual sections of Croatia
during the recent occupation.
Three thousand copies of the book were printed containing
photographs of those imprisoned, forcefully abducted and
identified until March 31, 1999.
The publisher of "Tears to the Truth", is the Association of Vukovar
Mothers and the associate publisher is the Alliance of Associations
of Families of Imprisoned and Missing Homeland War Defenders.
The president of the Government commission for the imprisoned and
missing, Colonel Ivan Grujic recalled that at the beginning of the
Serb aggression against Croatia, the list of imprisoned and missing
persons numbered 18,000 people. Today the list still contains the
names of 1,750 missing or imprisoned persons.
To date, almost three thousand victims of the Serb aggression aged
between six months to 104 years have been exhumed from mass graves
located from Skabrnja (southern Croatia) to Ilok (eastern
Croatia)", said Colonel Grujic.
Veterans' Affairs Minister, Dr. Juraj Njavro recalled the
beginning of the Serb aggression against Croatia and the occupation
of Vukovar, to which he himself personally bore witness as a doctor
in the Vukovar hospital.
The international community then did not support our defender and
Vukovar Croats and with this just encouraged the Serb aggressors.
"Now we are witnesses and see the international community involved
with the Kosovo crisis, trying to partially amend for the mistakes
made in Croatia. And what have they found there?
The same thing that numerous representatives have discovered here
in Croatia - numerous mass graves carrying the remains of women, the
elderly and children.
We then can rightly ask, who has the right and on what basis to
lecture us about justice, freedom and faith", Minister Njavro
said.
