ZAGREB, May 1 (Hina) - Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Croatia (SSSH) president Davor Juric on Saturday addressed some 10,000 people attending in Zagreb's Maksimir Park a Labour Day protest rally, and called on Croatia's
workers to vote for political changes at the next parliamentary elections. The divide between what Croatia's workers fought for in the Homeland War earlier in the decade and what they have now is great, Juric asserted. "We have had enough of prosperity and of the economic miracle. We no longer believe in promises. When you will be electing your representatives next time, think of what the current authorities have done to you," he told the rally. Reality is different than the arguments on the economic miracle and prosperity, Juric emphasised. The average Croatian workers' salary suffices for 17 days alone, he said, and reminded of the number of the unemployed, 320
ZAGREB, May 1 (Hina) - Federation of Independent Trade Unions of
Croatia (SSSH) president Davor Juric on Saturday addressed some
10,000 people attending in Zagreb's Maksimir Park a Labour Day
protest rally, and called on Croatia's workers to vote for
political changes at the next parliamentary elections.
The divide between what Croatia's workers fought for in the
Homeland War earlier in the decade and what they have now is great,
Juric asserted.
"We have had enough of prosperity and of the economic miracle. We no
longer believe in promises. When you will be electing your
representatives next time, think of what the current authorities
have done to you," he told the rally.
Reality is different than the arguments on the economic miracle and
prosperity, Juric emphasised.
The average Croatian workers' salary suffices for 17 days alone, he
said, and reminded of the number of the unemployed, 320,000
according to official data. Every day, 30 workers end on the dole,
while every ninth employed Croatian does not receive his paycheque,
he explained.
Juric stated those who did not join the SSSH in the Maksimir protest
did not live on their work and knowledge and only a few years ago
claimed May 1 celebrations were a remnant of the dark communist
times.
Vilim Robic, the president of the Croatian block of Democratic
Trade Unions, the fellow organiser of today's protest rally,
assessed Croatia was ruled by an "utter lack of morality and rule of
law".
He believes there will be no prosperity in Croatia unless the
effectiveness of the judiciary and social state institutions was
fortified.
