will be held after all on Friday, December 8. The reconciliation with the government was not successful, and trade unions cannot give up their rights determined by an agreement, vice president of the trade unions' foundation Vilim Ribic said after the meeting. Trade unions of public and state services requested the 8.5 percent increase of the basic wage, the payment of a Christmas bonus and gifts for children, which the government refused. It was agreed that a long-term wage policy be drafted, Ribic said. However, a progress has been achieved in negotiations between the government and trade unions because the government gave up its attempt to reduce wages in public companies
ZAGREB, Nov 6 (Hina) - Croatian Prime Minister Ivica Racan and
representatives of trade unions of the public sector and public
companies on Wednesday failed to achieve an agreement on trade
unions' demands, therefore a warning strike will be held after all
on Friday, December 8.
The reconciliation with the government was not successful, and
trade unions cannot give up their rights determined by an
agreement, vice president of the trade unions' foundation Vilim
Ribic said after the meeting.
Trade unions of public and state services requested the 8.5 percent
increase of the basic wage, the payment of a Christmas bonus and
gifts for children, which the government refused.
It was agreed that a long-term wage policy be drafted, Ribic said.
However, a progress has been achieved in negotiations between the
government and trade unions because the government gave up its
attempt to reduce wages in public companies in this year.
The two parties are still to agree on the payment of Christmas
bonuses in public companies. According to the government, there
will be no Christmas bonuses.
Prime Minister Racan failed to give a statement after the meeting.
He said he would give his opinion at Thursday's session of the
government.
