WASHINGTON/OTTAWA, Dec 6 (Hina) - The Croatian embassy in Ottawa is this year's winner of the city's award for the preservation of its architectural heritage in the category of remodelling. Croatian Ambassador Andrija Jakovcevic
received the award from acting mayor Allan Higdon at a ceremony held at the City Hall. The award was given for the reconstruction and annexing of the embassy, a protected building of Canada's architectural and historic heritage. The building, built in 1875, was purchased with contributions from the Croatian Diaspora in Canada and was renewed with the support of the Croatian government. Separate awards were given to Ambassador Jakovcevic, architect Josip Milcic from Toronto, contractor 'Mikac Construction' and expert consultant John Davies.
