MOSTAR, Dec 4 (Hina) - The Croat people's assembly presidency on
Monday condemned the recent decision of the Office of the High
Representative (OHR) to remove Branko Matic from the office of the
interior minister of Herzeg-Bosnian Canton (or Livno Canton) in the
Bosnian Croat-Moslem Federation.
According to a statement released by the press office of this
assembly, the decision is yet another example of double standards
in the treatment of the Croat national rights' in comparison to the
other two nations in Bosnia-Herzegovina.
The assembly held a referendum on the rights and position of the
Croat people in Bosnia-Herzegovina on 11 November, on the same day
when a general election was conducted in the country. Owing to such
an act which was seen as the breach of the ban on electioneering, the
OSCE mission in Bosnia decided to sanction the Croatian Democratic
Union of Bosnia-Herzegovina (HDZ BiH), which initiated both the
assembly and the referendum, by suspending 13 elected
representatives of this political party.
Subsequently the HDZ BiH leadership announced a possibility of
their boycott of the constitution of new bodies of authority both in
the country and the federation including cantonal levels if
disciplinary measures were not revoked.
After that, the head of the OSCE (Organisation for Security and
Cooperation in Europe) mission, Robert Barry, said the authorities
in Bosnia could be set up without the HDZ.
The Croat people's assembly, at whose helm is the incumbent HDZ
President, Ante Jelavic, now seems to be willing to settle
misunderstanding with international officials. Today it voiced
readiness to take part in the implementation of the recent
election's results.
The assembly's leaders said they were ready to participate despite
"huge obstacles which stem from unconstitutional election rules,
inappropriate sanctions that negate the will of voters and despite
inappropriate and biased campaign of a part of international
officials in Bosnia."
