CROATIAN GOVT ADOPTS CHANGES TO STATE BUDGET FOR 2001

ZAGREB, Nov 30 (Hina) - The Croatian Government on Thursday adopted a bill on changes to the 2001 budget, read a statement issued this evening by the Government's public relations office. In relation to the original draft budget, total expenses will be reduced by 2.5 billion kuna, which means that the total budgetary spending will amount to 49 billion and 720 million kuna. This is the first time the budget in the current year will be nominally lower than the budget in the previous year. Current expenditures (material costs, investment maintenance, different services) and capital expenditures have been reduced, as have been expenditures for some social rights. This constitutes a reduction in the public spending and it is particularly important that the share of public spending in Gross Domestic Product (GDP) has been reduced. The Government has also adopted a bill on changes to the Law on special taxes on personal vehicles, other motor vehicles, vessels and planes. The Government has sent into parliamentary procedure a bill on civil servants, as the first of bills on the reform of the system of state administration.
