ZAGREB, Oct 25 (Hina) - Members of the Croatian Parliament's House
of Counties on Wednesday advocated a stronger stimulation of
housing savings and a stronger government support in the savings
efforts.
During a discussion on a bill regulating the issue, members of the
Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) party suggested the state should
"open its purse" in efforts to spur housing savings, and should also
suggest to banks to increase the relation between deposits and
granted loans, to at least 1 : 5. Funds for this, Jure Buric (HDZ)
holds, could be gathered from taxes on tobacco and alcohol.
Amendments to the Law on Housing Savings should also include the
procedure of granting housing loans with a possibility of the
rescheduling of existing housing loans. This would enable the
borrower to transfer housing loans from commercial banks to housing
savings banks and continue paying off the loan under more
favourable conditions.
The Upper House accepted a draft law confirming the agreement on an
institutional frame for the establishment of an inter-state system
of transporting oil and gas.
