BOSNIAN REFUGEES IN USA TO LOSE STATUS OF TEMPORARILY PROTECTED PERSONS

Autor: ;RMLI;
WASHINGTON, Sept 2 (Hina) - The US Immigration and Naturalisation Service (INS) has issued a statement saying the status of temporarily protected persons for Bosnia-Herzegovina citizens residing in the USA expires on February 10 2001, in line with a decision by Attorney General Janet Reno. The decision is actually the last extension of such status for Bosnia-Herzegovina citizens or persons without citizenship whose last residence was on the territory of Bosnia-Herzegovina. According to the INS statement, Reno made the decision after assessing the situation in Bosnia-Herzegovina and consulting with other state bodies. BH refugees wishing to stay in the USA after February 10 will have to legally regulate their status. Refugees from the Yugoslav province of Kosovo will enjoy the status of temporarily protected persons until December 6, 2000.(hina) rml
