KUPJAK/VRBOVSKO, Aug 29 (Hina) - The 1,151-metre-long road tunnel 'Veliki Glozac' was drilled on Tuesday. This tunnel from Kupjak to Vrbovsko is a section of the Rijeka-Karlovac motorway. Present at the ceremony of the completion of
digging this tunnel were Croatian Government's officials. The tunnel was drilled by a French firm 'Spie Batignolles TP' and the Zagreb-based company 'Mediteran Union Tuneli'. This section will be completed and available for traffic by the end of 2002. According to a contract, this job is worth 98.1 million kuna. So far, 72.9 million kuna have been spent or 74 percent of the works has been done. A Croatian Deputy Prime Minister Slavko Linic said the Government supported the building of the Rijeka-Karlovac motorway as the biggest infrastructure facility in Croatia. This section will be completed and available for traffic by the end

Prior to today's ceremony, Linic and Minister of Transport and
Construction, Alojz Tusek and Radimir Cacic respectively, toured a
construction site of the most difficult section of the future
motorway. This 18.2-long-kilometre Karlovac-Vukova Gorica
section will be put into service ahead of the next tourist season.
