SNS: HDZ POLICY TOWARDS SERBS AIMS AT PERSECUTING SERBS FROM CRO

ZAGREB, May 23 (Hina) - The Serb Peoples Party (SNS) on Tuesday assessed that the essence of the Croatian Democratic Union's (HDZ) policy toward Serbs in Croatia was discovered in statements of HDZ representatives during a recent discussion in the Croatian National Sabor on endorsing several laws. The SNS believes that the HDZ policy aims at persecution of Serbs from Croatia. "It was a classical genocide policy, and assimilation was gradually conducted on Serbs who remained in Croatia by the violation of their human rights", president of the SNS and representative of the Serb minority in the Croatian National Sabor Milan Djukic told a press conference Tuesday. According to him, the assimilation process had been conducted by the gradual changing of the history of Croatian Serbs and the forming of negative role of the Serb people while creating the Croatian history. During Sabor's discussions, the Serb people are being called Serb- Chetnicks, criminals and aggressors, Djukic said and added that this style of policy towards Serbs equalled to the style of the Ustashi Independent State of Croatia (1941-1945). Speaking of the cancellation of districts of Knin and Glina in the Constitutional Law on Minorities, Djukic said it should be replaced by amendments to the Constitution, the return of the people's community status and the recognition of census from 1991.
