ZAGREB, May 15 (Hina) - The Committee on Economy, Development and Reconstruction of the Croatian parliament's House of Representatives on Monday endorsed amendments to a law on areas of special government concern. The chief objection
referred to a provision according to which state employees in areas of special government concern were entitled to salary raises between 25 and 50 percent. The state does not have the money for the raises and the provision should be excluded from the law, MPs said during debate today. The motioned amendments would return owners their houses, and provide alternate accommodation to those currently occupying those houses in the form of a flat or house owned by the state, or by giving them land and construction material to build a house. The amendments also include giving compensation until a permanent accommodation has been ensured. Tonci Tadi
ZAGREB, May 15 (Hina) - The Committee on Economy, Development and
Reconstruction of the Croatian parliament's House of
Representatives on Monday endorsed amendments to a law on areas of
special government concern.
The chief objection referred to a provision according to which
state employees in areas of special government concern were
entitled to salary raises between 25 and 50 percent. The state does
not have the money for the raises and the provision should be
excluded from the law, MPs said during debate today.
The motioned amendments would return owners their houses, and
provide alternate accommodation to those currently occupying those
houses in the form of a flat or house owned by the state, or by giving
them land and construction material to build a house. The
amendments also include giving compensation until a permanent
accommodation has been ensured.
Tonci Tadic of the Croatian Party of Rights was shocked at the
amendments because "they bring into question the future of a large
number of Croats in liberated areas." He asserted the government
had announced saving measures but was now breaking the budget.
