"We voiced satisfaction with Mesic's victory at the recent Croatian
presidential election," Perovic told reporters after his meeting
with the Croatian President.
He added that Mesic and the Monenegrin Liberal Alliance had shared
harmonised stands on all issues in the region, on the future
cooperation between Zagreb and Podgorica and on the opening of
border crossings.
Perovic said they had also considered some joint projects such as
plans for the construction of the Adriatric-Ionian motorway.
Commenting on the situation in Montenegro, Perovic assessed it as
very complicated and asserted that over 60 precent of citizens is in
favour of the independenence of Montenegro.
"We are exerting pressure on current authorities to achieve the
independence very soon, but we are not sure that this leadership
with President Milo Djukanovic wants the independence of
Montenegro," Perovic told reporters.
We maintain that Montenegro has no future without its independence
and it is also a condition for jettisoning the idea of a Greater
Serbia in this area, he stressed.
Perovic assessed that an idea of Montenegrin authorities to
democratise Serbia and establish connections with democratic
forces in Montenegro was not politically productive.
The top priority of Montenegro is to undergo tha process of
democratisation and civilisation and then catch the train to
Europe, he added.
Perovic said he believed that Montenegro can attain the
independence in a peaceful manner, but there are forces in
Montenegro and Serbia that want to maintain tension.
