Regarding the fact that donors at the last week's Regional Funding Conference, offered more than expected 1.8 billion euro, which has been assessed as necessary for the quick-start projects, it will be determined very soon which short-term projects at the second stage should get the surplus of 600 million euro. for South-East Europe and is confident that projects at the first
stage will be commenced within the announced time term of 12 months,
said Dan Hamilton, US coordinator for the Pact, in Washington on
Monday.
Regarding the fact that donors at the last week's Regional Funding
Conference, offered more than expected 1.8 billion euro, which has
been assessed as necessary for the quick-start projects, it will be
determined very soon which short-term projects at the second stage
should get the surplus of 600 million euro.
Hamilton said the start of works on the border crossing of Blace
between Macedonia and Kosovo as well as the planned start of
reconstruction of roads within 15 days showed that the Stability
Pact was ready and able to carry out operations.
He announced that a future action within the Stability Pact would be
a meeting of a working group on Wednesday and Thursday in Hungary to
discuss issues concerning the membership of south-eastern European
countries in the World Trade Organisation (WTO).
Salonika will host historians and teachers from Stability Pact
member states on 11 and 12 May. On 1 June a centre for coordination
in the struggle against organised crime is due to be opened in
Bucharest.
Hamilton added that a draft law on granting tariff and duty
advantages to Stability Pact member-countries had been forwarded
into the procedure of the Congress. Besides, about six billion
dollars will be invested in that region this year, and 10 percent of
it are means earmarked from the US state budget.
