Members of the Government agreed that two Challengers should be
sold but they pointed to a series of bad sides of a draft decision.
The Government is planning to sell CL-604 Challenger, manufactured
1996. According to some estimates, it can get 21 million U.S.
dollars for the purchase. The value of the other CL-601 Challenger,
produced in 1990, is assessed to be $14 million.
Instead of them, the Government would like to buy a small "hawker"
with eight to ten seats, which will be used for the transportation
of Government members but also for urgent aid and testing of
instruments at airports. In addition, it would buy the sixth
Canadair to reinforce the fleet for the extinguishing fires that
pose a threat to the Croatian coastal region and islands every
summer.
Although First Deputy Prime Minister explained that this was just a
letter of intent on the purchase of planes, most ministers insisted
on elaboration and extensive documents about this move.
The Government on Thursday just expressed the intention, while
ministries of defence, interior affairs, transportation and
finance should prepare a decision on this matter.
Owing to a lack of clarity regarding the previous offer and time
terms for the sale of shares of the tourist company 'Primosten', the
Government decided to postpone a decision on the annulment of the
previous offer and on making a new invitation for tenders, for the
next session.
