WASHINGTON, Jan 29 (Hina) - Croatia can count on an additional US$360,000 from the United States for the removal of anti-personnel mines this year, a statement from the State Department said on Friday. The financing of the
mine-removal programme will be conducted in cooperation with the Croatian Government, that is, the Croatian Mine Action Centre (CROMAC). The new mine removal campaign will start this spring, the statement read. The US$360,000 includes also donations by business people from the US wine industry, who announced that they would visit Croatia soon. In 1999, the United States helped the de-mining process in Croatia with US$1,692,000. A US delegation, headed by Jim Lawrence, a diplomat at the office of President Clinton's special envoy and Secretary of State Madeleine Albright for de-mining programmes, recently paid a visit to Croatia.
