ZAGREB, Jan 24 (Hina) - Presidential elections in Croatia passed in complete order and peace and there were no major criticisms, chairman of the Croatian National Electoral Commission, Marijan Ramuscak, told reporters Monday night.
The turnout of voters has been very good, he said. By 4pm, there were five per cent less voters who cast their ballots than in the presidential elections. "On the one hand this can be interpreted by citizens having had enough of elections, on the other, bad weather, influenza etc," Ramuscak said. Due to bad weather conditions some polling stations were not opened on time, such as in Donji Lapac, where the polling station was opened only after the road leading to it was cleared of snow, Ramuscak said. He stressed there had been no criticism regarding the voting process, but some were noted regarding the violation of media ban on Sunday and Monday. Examples are posters by the Glas 2000 organi
ZAGREB, Jan 24 (Hina) - Presidential elections in Croatia passed in
complete order and peace and there were no major criticisms,
chairman of the Croatian National Electoral Commission, Marijan
Ramuscak, told reporters Monday night.
The turnout of voters has been very good, he said.
By 4pm, there were five per cent less voters who cast their ballots
than in the presidential elections.
"On the one hand this can be interpreted by citizens having had
enough of elections, on the other, bad weather, influenza etc,"
Ramuscak said.
Due to bad weather conditions some polling stations were not opened
on time, such as in Donji Lapac, where the polling station was
opened only after the road leading to it was cleared of snow,
Ramuscak said.
He stressed there had been no criticism regarding the voting
process, but some were noted regarding the violation of media ban on
Sunday and Monday.
Examples are posters by the Glas 2000 organisation in Zadar and
Pazin.
"We hold it is not right for Glas 2000 to distribute posters on media
ban day, positive or negative," Ramuscak said.
Polling stations were closed at 7pm Monday and the first official
results would be presented by the Commission half an hour after
midnight.
Ramuscak said results from 50 or more per cent of polling stations
would be available then.
Voting results from abroad will be collected from fewer polling
stations because the gathering process was slow.
Also, he added, in some parts of the world, such as the in the two
Americas, the voting was still in progress due to the time
difference.
