January 3 parliamentary elections. Fassino said Croatia had shed its nationalist past and would be able to integrate with European institutions much faster. "In the past, Zagreb-Brussels relations were marked by difficulties. Now Italy will advocate a faster integration of Zagreb with (European) Union institutions," Fassino said. "Corriere della Sera" reported former Union commissioner Emma Bonino said the opposition's victory at the elections was a chance for Zagreb to access the Union more quickly.
