ZAGREB, Dec 6 (Hina) - Croatian parliament speaker Zlatko Tomcic received unassigned police officers on Thursday, who protested in Zagreb's St. Mark's square warning about irregularities and the disrespect of criteria established during the rationalisation process in the Interior Ministry. Representatives of the unassigned police officers presented their requests to Tomcic, namely replacements in the ministry's internal control department, better efficiency of the State Prosecutor's Office, an investigation into the reorganisation plan and cases of abuse of office in the interior ministry, assignments to new posts or the retirement. They suggested to Tomcic the establishment of an investigating commission which would examine all job dismissal cases and the process of making police officers available. Apart from irregularities in the rationalisation process, unassigned policemen also pointed out the overall poor situation in the police. Tomcic said this was a serious problem which affected unassigned policemen, but also a problem which threatened the seriousness and dignity of an important state service such as the police. He suggested coordinating associations of unassigned police officers should continue the talks with the Interior Minister, Sime Lucin, in order to re-examine all claims about irregularities in the rationalisation process. Tomcic promised he would personally talk to government representatives. Members of the parliamentary war veteran' committee also held talks with the unassigned police officers. (hina) np sb
