ZAGREB, Nov 19 (Hina) - Zorana Banic, who was handed over to Croatia by the Swiss authorities last Friday and taken to the Zadar County Court detention centre, on Monday submitted a request for a re-trial with the Zadar County
Prosecutor's Office. Banic, a 49-year-old nurse, was sentenced to 20 years' imprisonment in absence in 1998 for participating in the killing of 43 civilians in the village of Skabrnja in November 1991. The Prosecutor's Office will decide about the request within eight days and forward its decision to the Zadar County Court, which is to decide about the retrial within 48 hours. The retrial was a precondition for the Swiss authorities to hand Banic over.(hina) rml
