VIENNA, Nov 8 (Hina) - The upcoming general elections in Kosovo will be the best monitored elections in this century, the head of the OSCE Mission to Kosovo, Daan Everts, said in Vienna on Thursday. At a session of the Organisation
for Security and Cooperation in Europe's permanent council, Everts reported on the situation in Kosovo. He informed participants that the European Agency for Reconstruction and Development had set aside 2.5 million euro for the monitoring of the November 17 elections in the Yugoslav province. All the necessary technical preparations are underway to ensure that the elections take place under international standards and to secure a peaceful and correct multi-ethnic campaign, Everts said, stressing that it was important for all ethnic communities living in Kosovo to vote. VIENNA, Nov 8 (Hina) - The upcoming general elections in Kosovo will
be the best monitored elections in this century, the head of the
OSCE Mission to Kosovo, Daan Everts, said in Vienna on Thursday.
At a session of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in
Europe's permanent council, Everts reported on the situation in
Kosovo.
He informed participants that the European Agency for
Reconstruction and Development had set aside 2.5 million euro for
the monitoring of the November 17 elections in the Yugoslav
province.
All the necessary technical preparations are underway to ensure
that the elections take place under international standards and to
secure a peaceful and correct multi-ethnic campaign, Everts said,
stressing that it was important for all ethnic communities living
in Kosovo to vote.
Twenty-six ethnic parties have registered to run in the elections.
Everts told reporters progress was evident in the return of Serbs to
the province, and expressed hope the trend would continue.
He also applauded the establishment of the independent multi-
ethnic Kosovo Radio Television, and stressed the need for further
development of the multi-ethnic police force.
The UN resolution 1244 must be fully implemented, and it is not on
the trail of independence for Kosovo, Everts concluded.
